Bobby McKee
I attended Robert McKee's Story Seminar at the weekend. 3 full days of a grumpy yet passionate man talking for 11 hours a day about how film makers have forgotten how to tell decent stories. I had heard of the seminar a few times before, it has even made it into a film itself when Charlie Kaufman attends the seminar in the film Adaptation. Robert didnt play himself but instead chose Brian Cox to portray him and a pretty spot on performance it is (he permanently drinks coffee and swears A LOT). At one point in the seminar Robert shouted at some guy and threw him out because he kept interrupting. It was really good, like when someone would get really bollocked at school, everyone went quiet and there was a really awkward atmosphere straight after. Robert asked us if he had been unreasonable and we all sheepishly muttered "No", as if anyone would have dared say anything else. As for what I learnt, it's hard to say. A lot of information was thrown at me and I filled a book full of notes, very odd as I hadn't attended a lecture for years. When it was over I felt exhausted and I'm going to leave it a while before I look back over said notes and write my epic masterpiece: Peter - The Horse with no Legs.
