I have written previously about my love of petanque. I finally got to play a game in the hallowed arena that is Cleaver Square during my last weekend in Kennington (moving post to follow shortly). However not having any petanque balls we had to settle for onions and thusly created Petoignon. They work just as well and what could make you feel even more French and peasanty than playing the game with onions? Answer: nothing.

I have decided I haven't heard nearly enough skiffle so for the next month or so I shall endeavour to explore and devour as much of it as I can. I have named this quest: Harris' Great Summer Skiffle Adventure or HGSSA as Melody Maker are calling it. I will keep you posted on my journey and if I find anything that may tickle your ear drums I will let you know, you lucky old beans.

Merchant

I went to see Stephen Merchant last night. He was doing stand-up comedy and he was very good. Strange and very humble of a man who has been so successful in one area of comedy to start right from scratch at another rather than using his success and fame to jump up the ladder. He may never get to the ridiculous heights of Gervais but he's well worth a look. Well done Stephen. And that's ME saying that, so...you know.

WHAM

Great article in The Times yesterday sticking up for Andrew Ridgeley. All too often he is used as the classic example of being the weaker of two halves. For example on Baddiel and Skinners live show an audience member asked David Baddiel if he was the Andrew Ridgeley to Frank's George Michael. Clearly this was quite a harsh (yet somewhat true?) approximation that Baddiel just wasn't and isn't as funny as Skinner. Unforunately, this accusation was instantly confirmed when Baddiel, instead of replying with a devastatingly sharp and hilariously dry comeback, just said nothing. So it was left to Frank to rescue the situation making a gag about his dubious sexual orientation. However before you rush to describe something or someone as the Andrew Ridgeley of their situation read this article and think carefully. Who would you rather be, Andrew or George?

Fish lips

This morning, like most mornings, I was thinking about fish whilst in the shower. I have been invited to go on a fishing trip with some friends and whilst I have always wanted to try it I still have the niggling doubt in the back of my mind that it may be a bit cruel to stick a hook through a fishes mouth, fight with it for half an hour and then throw it back. I know there are studies published literally every hour reporting that fish feel no pain but I'm just not sure. I think I will take some Savlon with me to shorten the fishes pain and to prevent the wound getting infected. I wonder how many other fishermen would appreciate a tube of Savlon in their tackle box. It seems like a perfect project for my friend Peter's Fifty Quid Danger Fund. You can either donate £50 to a worthy cause or submit an idea for how to spend fifty pounds in a novel manner. Or even a novel manor.

Saxondale

Yes. Just got tickets for the Steve Coogan live show and although its in November I cant wait. It's called "Alan Partridge and Other Less Successful Characters". Characters like Tommy Saxondale whom a few friends have said I bear an uncanny resemblance to. They are no longer my friends.

Teeth

I keep seeing the trailer for the film Teeth and I feel compelled to write something to honour this cinematic milestone. On paper, Teeth is just your everyday Vagina Dentata tale of a girl who has teeth in her lady garden. The thing is that its not a low budget B movie going straight to DVD, it's had a fair old amount of money spent on it and the main actress even managed to to win a best actress award at the Sundance festival. Maybe it's not as ridiculous as I first thought. Maybe the condition isn't as rare as i first thought...
Speaking of films, I'm no Barry Norman but I really like the idea of the film Hancock - a truly reluctant super hero. However the presence of Will Smith worries me, but i dont know why, he was and still is the F-F-F-Fresh Prince and he "never makes a wack jam".

I am one of the 7 people who was lucky enough to get a ticket for the Glastonbury festival. I'm off tomorrow and back on Monday so I will tell you all about it then and try and stick a few things up I've been meaning to talk about for a while.
I been busy me, I need a holiday.
